Design Event SHowcase

BRIEF
Create an invitation design for an upcoming graphic design student showcase. The design should revolve around a word or phrase and relate to themes like graduation, design, etc. This invite is intended for design industry professionals and the general public of all ages.
MY APPROACH
Software: Adobe Illustrator
I chose the word “Surge” for the invitation as it aptly captures
ideas of moving forward and self-improvement as you accumulate new skills and surge past your previous states. I experimented with a variety of different directions for this project.
PATTERN
I wanted the background to be filled with interlocking arrows; however, I wanted to be able to make quick changes to their size and colour for the sake of experimentation. So, I created a tileable vector image so I could retain as much customisability as possible.

I experimented with many different directions before choosing the final poster design.
TYPOGRAPHY:
The “SURGE” type was made using the shape builder tool in conjunction with the pen tool. Further experiments were made with the types stroke and fill.
